Keeping Communities Safe with Inflatable Fire House

October is Fire Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety and keeping communities prepared.  Boulder Blimp Co’s inflatable fire house are a great, fun way to educate with inflatables.

During this month, Fire Prevention Week also takes place during October 5th to 11th.  This week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, an event that forever changed how we think about fire prevention and public safety.

From the Great Chicago Fire to Fire Prevention Week

The Great Chicago Fire began on October 8th, 1871 and burned for two full days.  Fueled by high winds and dry conditions, this fire destroyed more than three square miles of the city and left over 100,000 people without a home while also claiming hundreds of lives.  In the aftermath, fire departments nationwide realized the importance of fire education and preparedness.  It wasn’t just about putting out fires, it was about preventing them and educating the public on what to do if one broke out.

To honor that lesson, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) established Fire Prevention Week in 1922.  It remains the longest-running public health observance in the US and continues to remind families how to plan, prepare, and stay calm during emergencies.  Over the years, the campaign expanded into Fire Prevention Month, giving communities even more time to share resources and teach fire safety in creative ways.

Why Fire Safety Education Matters

Even with modern technology and improved infrastructure, fires still happen every day.  According to the NFPA, you may have as little as two minutes to escape a home fire once the alarm sounds.  That is why learning what to do before an emergency breaks out is so critical.

Fire safety education is important for all ages.  Knowing how to test smoke alarms, plan escape routes, identify fire hazards, and perform “stop, drop, and roll” can save lives.  Hands on learning is what helps those thing stick, especially when it comes to children.
